I'm not fat, I'm fluffy.

Im fat. Tub o'lard.

It's a sickening realization to realize you're as big as a fricken house. And it's even worse to feel like you cannot do a thing about it.

Since quitting smoking almost two years ago, I'm now at least 100 pounds overweight. And I know it's because I eat too much. But half the time, I can't NOT eat.

it's fucking terrible.

Any suggestions? I want to lose weight, but I can't seem to do it. Will I need to hit that "place" like I needed to with smoking? What's the catch?

What have you tried in the past? With regard to activity, what do you enjoy doing? (Or at least not hate to do..lol)

I personally have really good luck with the South Beach diet when I'm able to follow it. The first few days of the induction really sucked, but I lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks. (I know some was water but I dropped two pants sizes.)I gained 100 pounds when I was pregnant, and that is gone but I'd still like to drop 30-50 more. I find its harder now to be seriously motivated and consistent about both food and exercise than it was when I was at my heaviest and nothing fit.

I keep a fat picture of me taped to the inside of the kitchen cupboards. It helps to remind me to eat healthy when I go grab a snack. lol

Other than that, it's just like smoking. you need to WANT to do it. And it's the hardest battle ever. Harder than smoking. Because really, when you quit smoking, you've quit. When you lose weight? It's a lifetime battle to KEEP it off.

Good luck man. You've got my support if you need it.

I've been using Sparkpeople (like a free version of ediets) and the 30 day method. I put on 70lbs during Paul's first year, and didn't realize it because I just kept right on wearing my stretchy maternity clothes.

I've dropped about 25 lbs (and about 9" off my waist) since June. I highly recommend keeping weekly measurements. I gain muscle pretty quickly, so there were a lot weeks where I weighed in and either had no change, or I'd gained a little. But my measurements kept going down, so I was getting enough positive feedback to keep me from getting discouraged and returning to old habits.

For me, I really needed the exercise to get the weight off, since dieting alone doesn't do it for me, which is where the 30 days method comes in. I decided to give myself the option of either going walking, or doing an exercise dvd for 45 minutes when I get up. The first two weeks are the hardest, but then it gets a lot easier. The other habit I've been working on is to take Paul biking once day. He really enjoys it and isn't shy about getting his helmet, and following me around while announcing "Paul bike!" until we go.

As far as the eating part goes, there are two things that really help me. The first is using toddler plates, since it's kind of hard to put too much food on them. The other is making sure I get enough fiber and protein. I find that if I have about half my fiber with breakfast, I don't have that mid morning slump where I used grab a large coke to get me through it. I split the other half of my fiber between dinner and supper, and my energy level is pretty constant. I also started at 1800 calories a day for a week, since I was probably eating around 2500 a day. I knew dropping to 1200 a day from 2500 wasn't going to be something I could stick to without feeling deprived. I'm down to 1300-1600 cals a day, depending on what my activities were (usually only go up to 1600 on days when I ride 8+ miles).

The other thing that's really helped me is having a midpoint goal and reward. I decided that once I got under 190, I'd get a nice bike and trailer to reward myself for my hard work and because I knew it'd help with the last 50lbs. My husband has lost about 40lbs pretty effortlessly by bike commuting (~22 mile round trip) over the past year and actually has a shorter commute now. I'm trying to work up to pulling Paul in the trailer for longer distances, so I can "commute" by bike too :P.

(If this sounds a little disjointed, it's because Paul and Jack are insisting on chasing each other back and forth on the couch I'm sitting on.)

Getting deathly ill did it for me. :p

Otherwise, I have started to use www.fitday.com, which allows me to track calories (free) and excercise so I get an idea of intake and output.

I have PCOS so you know when people blame their weight on a slow metabolism, well, I can make that claim for real. I was diagnosed back in September, then got knocked up, so I couldn't "diet" while on the meds. I really don't know if being on these meds will help me or not. But apparently they "level" the playing field in weight loss. I have another 50 lbs to loose (to get to the weight that weight watchers want me to be), but I've lost 70 from my highest weight so far.

If you need someone to be accountable too (like I do) I'll happily kick your ass and harass you on a regular basis.

My best weight loss tool was copious amounts of LSD frequently, but my workplace frowns on that type of thing..

I need a purpose-I cannot "work out" or "go to the gym" lord help me, just the thought of doing exercise for the sake of it, drives me batty.

Currently I'm walking to work twice a week, which equals 5.2 miles, so I'm going to up that to 3 or 4 walks a week I think. I get out for walks with the kids, but I'm not sure how to count walking 15 minutes up a hill with a double stroller and 60 pounds of kid. I walk a LOT actually.

Problem being my eating, period. I joined the thing that Caitlin mentioned, and noticed that my fave snack, mixed nuts was a WHOPPING 876 calories for a cup or so! EEK! No WONDER I'm fat!

I eat stupid, that's all. So I'm going to do the unthinkable (to me) and track me eating. Food and Money are the TWO things I cannot control. So now it's time to be a grown up and face the numbers (and oh dear god it isn't pretty)

I'd like to be half my weight by next summer, but I'mm settling for losing 45 pounds by the end of the year. It's doable if I actually stick to it.

So jen, you have my permission to kick my ASS all the time. No one has EVER held me accountable since I was a child, and I need that I think.

So here goes. Starting tomorrow (since the nuts BLEW IT for the day) we're going to eat sensibly. I hope.

Thanks guys!

Okay, here's my problem: I just binge eat. Whenever I hate myself, I eat. I lost all of the pregnancy weight with Anthony in, like 3 months (because I was nursing and he had severe allergies from what I ate). When I could eat again, I got depressed because of the whole grad school thing, being stuck in the whole SAHM mindset, etc. I gained another 15 or so pounds.

Lately, I've just logged all of my food intake. Exercise helps more than anything (regulates mood, increases metabolism). You're probably getting enough exercise. You just need to identify your triggers. The only way you can figure that out is by logging ABSOLUTELY everything you eat.

It's a pain in the ass, but I find it's totally working for me right now. Then again, I'm not terribly depressed at the moment.

Personally, I think I've tried everything. I cannot diet. I just can't. I can make myself cut back a little, but I can't cut out whole classes of foods, or things I like. It just doesn't work for me.

So I gave up on dieting and started exercising. But aerobic exercise (walking, swimming), while it's really good for you, doesn't seem to help me lose weight either.

We had a weight bench in the basement storage room gathering dust. I pulled it out. I found a book on strength training. I started lifting weights. I started losing weight. Without dieting. Without giving up coke or chardonay. I lost 40 pounds in one year. Another 40 to go, but little by little it's working.

The key is to keep it up. To keep doing it. At least three days a week. You build up muscle at first, and muscle weighs more than fat, so I didn't notice any weight loss for the first six weeks, but the shape of my body changed and I dropped two sizes anyway. Then, well, muscle burns calories even when at rest, while fat just sits there. So the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism. It's a good progressive cycle.
When I'm liftin I just keep saying to myself, "Look out muhfugga, I'm bad. I can kick ass."

So, it's not for everyone. But it's working for me.

I've found that I can cut back, but I can't cut out either. And they don't recommend that, since you'll go nuts.

So far, things are working. I'm enough of a data geek to enjoy the graphs and tracking, and I actually feel better already after a week of this. I do want to get a weight bench as well.

the only other time I've lost weight is after doing a LOT of drugs for a long time, and rarely eating. So I don't know what works. I used to walk a lot and play basketball, and dance embarrassingly by myself, all of which helped keep the weight down. So now, I have to integrate exercise back in.

I tend to be a private person with exercise, so I'm learning to do it in front of others more.

I want Angela bassett's arms from 'What's love got to do with it" so I'm slowly starting push ups, sit ups and genie sits (I always did them, didn't know they had a name) We'll see what happens.

I like the valuable info you provide in your articles.

This is regarded as the common design and almost usually in black.
Before you will get your shoulder tattoo you MUST spend some time to
pick the best shoulder tattoo designs. From small, to intricate and larger memorial tattoos happen
to be a common tattoo design in 2008. Your designer are fully aware of exactly which inks may cause
allergies, so before giving the tattoo artist the go-ahead, see
whether the ink he uses supply you with an allergy. In the last these sorts of body art were considered a sign of rebellion, but as
more plus much more consumers are getting tattoos and piercings, body art is now being considered
a satisfactory portion of modern life.
